A maxim (Qa‘idah pl. Qawa‘id) is defined as "a general rule which applies to all of its related particulars". The scholars of Islam down through the centuries have written many books on the importance of this subject. Fiqh is literally understanding and comprehension, and specifically, in matters of Islamic creed, faith, law and jurisprudence, as derived from the Qur’an, Sunnah, Ijma‘ (consensus) and Qiyas (analytical reason). This paper aims to study the evolutionary background, benefits and importance of Islamic Legal Maxims.
